Why do we get ill?

By Milos

Human immune system is a miracle of nature. Think about it for a second: we are so resilient and our defenses are so strong that with an exception of a few viruses like AIDS and Ebola and a few bacteria, almost nothing in nature can kill us. How is this even possible? How is it possible that despite our poor diets, despite smoking, long waking hours, despite all the stress and even despite drug use – very few of us get sick more then once or twice a year?  It is because the human immune system does such a fantastic job.

There are probably hundreds of factors that affect our immune system. The human body is a supremely complex mechanism and we’ll most likely never find out everything about it. Still, it is easy to see that there are some major factors that affect how our health defenses perform. In order of importance, they are:

  • Stress
  • poor Sleep
  • poor Diet
  • poor Exercise

We can say that those four factors are ultimately the main cause of most diseases. Even viruses and bacteria can be said to have less affect. After all, we know that only some of the people exposed to a virus or a bacteria get ill. The difference lays in the strength of our defenses and these four factors define that strength.
